BT Vision - On Demand TV, Live Football, Moves, And No Dish!
Posted on March 18th, 2009 No commentsBT Vision, the digital TV service from BT (British Telecom). When you sign up to BT Vision, you use the BT Vision set-top box to mix Freeview (40 channels of free digital TV received through your standard aerial) with on-demand content delivered through your BT broadband connection.
Why should you not just get a Freeview box that records to a hard drive for a higher one-off payment? Then you’re going to miss out on on-demand sport and movies that may not be available on Freeview for some time. Why not use another provider for my sport and movies (music too for that matter)? Then you’re going to need to commit to a minimum contract just for those channels.
Propective customers of BT Vision, or indeed anyone that has BT broadband already, wil lfind it easy to switch to the digital service - as they can get the best commitment-free mix of TV possible, especially as they build up their library of past programmes, sports events, concerts etc. Let’s face it, when it comes to day-to-day viewing Freeview has pretty much everything you need, and to be able to supplement that on either a pay-per-view basis or by minor adjustments in your monthly fee is a very flexible way to get digital TV.
By keeping the core viewing to Freeview through the aerial you’re not overusing your broadband on downloading, but it’s there for the other, say, 10% of your viewing when you need it.

Tiscali TV - the Ultimate Satelite Alternative
Posted on March 18th, 2009 No commentsTiscali TV is rated by many as the best digital TV service available in the UK today. It is technically streets ahead of the competition and on price and value wins completely hands down, what you get for your money and what you can do with the service in terms of interactivity and viewing content is truly staggering.
Tiscali television also comes bundled with 8 MB broadband, free line rental and a choice of free weekend or anytime calls from an unbelievably low £15.99 - £19.99 a month - not only that but there are free international calls thrown in too. Just on line rental alone if you switched from BT you would be saving up to £130 a year let alone whatever you may be paying to your existing broadband provider or Sky/Virgin - all we can say is we’re looking at a give away here and you would be mad not to pocket the savings by switching to a Tiscali television bundle today. The one drawback is that it is not available to everyone in the UK yet but the footprint is growing weekly with hopefully 50% of UK homes enabled by the end of 2008.
Please note that this is a fully fledged digital TV service so you watch it on your TV in the living room - not, as many think, through your PC. The TV broadcast is primarily delivered down your phone line, so no need for a satellite dish and you don’t need to be in a cabled area, the digital TV box is also enhanced with two internal free-view tuners that you can take advantage of, if you happen to have a free-view arial. This enables you record up to 3 channels whist watching another by also supplementing the DSL signal (phone line) with the two DTT signals from the free-view tuner.
Tiscali has a deal with BSkyB that will add the full set of Sky basic channels - including Sky One, Sky Two, Sky Three, Sky Arts, Sky Travel, Sky News and Sky Sports News to its channel line up. This comes in addition to the Sky Movies and Sky Sports channels which can also be added to your Tiscali television package. So you are not going to miss out on the premium content delivered by Sky like 24, Lost, The Simpsons and Prison Break,..
In addition to this premium broadcast content Tiscali TV can offer the biggest range of both Video On Demand (Over 1000 movies) and TV On Demand, whole series like 6 Foot Under, Desperate Housewives and Lost as examples enabling you to create in affect your own TV schedule and watch what you want, when you want. Not only that but there is a TV catch up service where BBC1 BBC2 BBC3 C4 FX etc archive their programming for the last 7 days allowing you to literally catch up with any viewing that you’ve missed during the week.
Another first Tiscali TV offers an award winning children’s channel Scamp it even comes with it’s own remote (a minimote) just for the kids, a great on demand channel that educates and entertains pre-school children.
So, why not try Tiscali TV today - all you need a TV and a phone line - no dish required!

I recently bought a new tv for my room it has freeview built in. I have tried boosters , aerials, running a cable from the loft (although the aerial isnt digital) but i cant seem to get a signal. Can anyone sugest what i should do? Also do you know if virgin media do a similar thing to sky in the sky multiroom package where you can have the tv channels you have downstairs also upstairs. If they did this would be something i could consider. Any advice would be appreciated thanks

How Can I Watch Digital TV Through my PC?
Posted on March 10th, 2009 4 commentschippyminton91 asked:
I know you can get digital TV cards, and I’d ideally like to run BBC Freesat (in the UK). Would I need any particular type of card/box/satellite dish installed? And what might the minimum system requirements for my PC to run it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry, perhaps I was slightly unclear, I’m trying to receive UK TV stations, and I live in the UK.
