Does it mean that everything is going to be in 720p - 1080p or going to be the same quality as it is currently is. I want to know this as i want HD ready quality or do i need to buy a freesat box?

It does mean that the air wave signal type will allow fo HD quality transmissions. Keep in mind though that most every program and movie ever until recently was recorded in 480i. Though some of it may be up converted to 1080i it will never have the quality of true HD. True HD is something recorded and displayed in either 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. The digital switchover only concerns people who are using an antenna for the TV watching. If you use cable or satellite you will not need to make any changes to your current TV setup. If you are using an antenna you will need to do one of two things. Get a converter box that will convert the digital air wave to a analog or buy a new tv with a built in digital tuner.

The quality of any given station won’t necessarily improve. SD (standard definition) and HD are two specific resolutions. At the moment analogue signals can be of any quality (consequently the resolution varies) by the time they reach you, depending on the surrounding geography. A really good analogue signal can be better than SD digital transmission.
Digital will be in SD, unless it’s an HD channel, and you have to pay for most of those still.
